Citizen Schools NY is proud to be partnering with 4 schools this year. Our team of 4 Campus Leaders and 33 Teaching Fellows are now serving nearly 500 students in the East Harlem and Brooklyn.
Here at Citizen Schools New York, December is when our students get to showcase what they have learned in their 10-week apprenticeships, while their volunteer Citizen Teachers get to say WOW! At our semi-annual Google MegaWOW!, 75 students across our four schools were able to showcase their final products to more than 20 Citizen Teachers, 30 staff members, 25 guest and other special guests.
Since 2015, the staff at Cavelight Films, a New York-based production company, have led apprenticeships inspiring students to be creative, while teaching technical skills exercised in the film production field. Last spring, Jordan Ehrlich -(Cavelight Films) and Caitlin McNally -( National Geographic) guided students through a 10-week Documentary filming class at the Urban Assembly Unison Middle School in Brooklyn. The students had the opportunity to create a documentary that showcased Citizen Schools programing at Urban Assembly Unison Middle School.
This year, we will be working with 5 middle schools in East and West Harlem, as well as Brooklyn. Our campus team is excited for a terrific year with our students!
