Massachusetts Staff Spotlights

This summer, Citizen Schools Massachusetts was excited to welcome two new staff members to our team! Ani and Shanay jumped right in as leaders during summer Teaching Fellow training, and both have already proven to be incredible assets to our organization. Read on below to learn more about their diverse backgrounds and positions at Citizen Schools.

Ani Yanachkova, Campus Director at East Somerville Community School

Our newest Campus Director Ani Yanachkova brings with her ten years of experience developing educational initiatives that inspire global citizens and unite communities. Most recently, Ani worked in the Dominican Republic and helped create programs that allow all students access to quality education. Her knowledge in program design and leadership demonstrates the importance of exercising flexibility and sensitivity to local, political and social contexts. Ani is an energetic education visionary with a passion for traveling and building relationships wherever she goes. Ani is also fluent in Spanish, English and Bulgarian. She is a dynamic addition to our Campus Leadership team and we can’t wait to see her successes this year at East Somerville!

Shanay Reed, Program Manager

Shanay Reed is our newest Program Manager, responsible for overseeing CSMA’s volunteer experience in both the Expanded Learning Time (ELT) and Catalyst programs. Shanay is a lifelong Boston resident with years of experience in education and a dedicated service mindset. After receiving her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Shanay held positions as a paraprofessional in Boston Public Schools as well as various teaching roles at Dudley Street Neighborhood Charter School in Roxbury. She is also an AmeriCorps alum through the Dudley Promise Corp, through which she delivered to the mayor of Boston and the governor of MA a speech on the impact a volunteer can make on student learning, a perfect alignment with our mission. We are honored she chose to continue her dedication to her community, young people and service with Citizen Schools!
