Celebrating Students: WOW! Showcase Events

Each year, we excitedly look forward to WOW! student showcases, which celebrate the culmination of our students’ hard work throughout their apprenticeships. At these events, students get to show off all that they have accomplished and families, friends, and volunteers get to enjoy interactive presentations and other festive activities. Every campus in New York had a chance to shine with their very own campus celebration--complete with a pun-inspired theme:

Global Technology Preparatory Wizarding World of WOW!

GTP transformed their halls into the world of Harry Potter with enchanted fireplaces, flying keys, and a great hall for a delicious feast. Guests explored each classroom hearing presentations on brand building and healthy eating and had the chance to try out an arcade game that student’s developed from scratch.

Isaac Newton Middle Schools’ Lu-WOW!

Tropical themed decor dawned the walls at INMS as students presented sneaker designs, read personal narratives, and played original songs they produced themselves.

Renaissance School of the Arts’ Wowwy Awards

With a red carpet to rival any celebrity award show, RSA kicked off the evening with excerpts from a  production of Aladdin and group dance performances. After the show, in smaller groups, students demonstrated techniques for a cavity filling and programming solar cars.

Urban Assembly Unison’s Wow-ter-space

UAU invited guests on a journey that was out of this world! Students shined bright as they showed off their new skills in lego robotics, video game design, and urban gardening, hosting their very on farmers market!

Website and Magazine Launch Party

8th Grade Academy is the capstone of Citizen Schools’ entire program tailored to 8th Graders. Throughout the entire year, this group worked one-on-one with a volunteer on writing or coding to develop a final product - a “Bridging” magazine and a website. To mark this exciting occasion, a selection of students read aloud or shared more about their experiences to friends and family at Google Headquarters in Chelsea.
