8th Grade Academy Inspires Creativity in Students

This year, mentors in Harlem and Brooklyn prepared more 8th graders for high school through Citizen Schools 8th Grade Academy (8GA). This program provided hands-on writing assistance as well as guidance with the high school application process for all 8th graders in the program. It was the excitement to grow as a writer that led Sanai, an 8th-grade student at Urban Assembly Unison to join Citizen Schools 8th Grade Academy. She was a member of multiple apprenticeships, and the staff was impressed by her work ethic and creativeness. Sanai was offered the chance to participate in 8th Grade Academy with like-minded peers.

She credits 8GA for helping her develop as a writer and preparing her for high school with the deadlines. Throughout this year Sanai was mentored by Ms. Elise. The two bonded over birthdays, favorite color and hobbies. This mentorship is one Sanai will carry throughout High School and beyond. Sanai mentions that her family is proud of her and is excited for her to attend Fort Hamilton High School this fall.
