Update: Governor Cuomo's Expanded Learning Time Initiative

In his State of the State address in January, Governor Cuomo announced Expanded Learning Time as8271666749_4a9bd4fe20_z one of eight initiatives he would implement within the year. On Thursday, September 5, the initiative had its official start when the New York State Education Department released a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the new Expanded Learning Time Grant Program. The purpose of this grant is “to provide funding to school districts operating independently or in collaboration with not-for-profit community based organizations (CBOs) to increase school-wide learning opportunities in high-quality extended school day and/or extended school year programs, with a focus on improving academic achievement.” As an advocate and provider of ELT, we are thrilled that Expanded Learning Time continues to gain traction on the State level as a priority for changing the educational trajectories of students. Please join us in thanking Governor Cuomo for his support of innovative Expanded Learning Time programs, and most of all, for putting our students first!
