CBJ Names Citizen Teacher & Board Member Micheal Juby "40 Under 40"

Michael Juby head shotCitizen Schools North Carolina (CSNC) is thrilled to announce that Michael Juby (pictured left), Citizen Teacher and Advisory Board Member for CSNC, has been named to the Charlotte Business Journal's 2013 40 Under 40 list of outstanding and rising young business leaders in our region. The winners will be honored at an awards presentation on March 28 at the McGlohon Theater at Spirit Square and profiled in a special section of the publication’s March 29 print edition.

Michael Juby has volunteered more than 120 community service hours within the last two years for Citizen Schools as a Citizen Teacher and has been an Advisory Board Member since May 2011. As a Citizen Teacher, Juby has led mock trial apprenticeships for our MLK Jr. Middle School program for nearly two years and is teaching another apprenticeship this spring.

Nicole Vangas, a former Teaching Fellow with Citizen Schools, supported Michael Juby during his first semester as a Citizen Teacher and had the following to say about her experience working with him:

Michael Juby - Mock Trial Spr 2012Working with Mr. Juby was a really great experience. Even though I knew that he was busy with work and his family at home, I could always rest-assured that he would come to MLK prepared; and he did!...I was also very impressed with Mr. Juby’s ability to handle a classroom. He knew when it was time to move quickly through material; when it was time to slow down; when the students needed some motivation (i.e. candy)...Being a Citizen Teacher for the Mock Trial apprenticeship can be a challenge because it requires students to grasp a lot of material quickly—and the material is sometimes pretty advanced. Occasionally, the students aren't as interested or focused on the material as they need to be...Mr. Juby took the challenge in stride and performed as if he’d been a Citizen Teacher for years! It was definitely one of the best apprenticeships I was a part of; and that’s because of Mr. Juby’s hard work and dedication!

Michael Juby, Jr. is a Partner in Parker Poe’s Banking & Finance Department. Juby has been with Parker Poe since 2005. He represents borrowers and lenders in a variety of corporate and public finance transactions, including higher education and general governmental financings. Additionally, Juby serves on several firm committees, including the Community Service Committee and the Professional Development Committee. In 2012, he was recognized by North Carolina Super Lawyers as a “Rising Star” in Bonds/Government Finance.

Juby received his J.D. with honors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2005 and his B.S. from N.C. State University in 2000, where he was a member of the inaugural class of Park Scholars, the university’s flagship scholarship awarded to students based on outstanding leadership, service and character.
