New Mexico Treasurer's Office Teaches Apprentices How to Budget

Ever heard of middle schoolers teaching high schoolers a thing or two? At De Vargas Middle School in Santa Fe, New Mexico, students in Kirene Guardado's “My Money, My Life” apprenticeship are planning on doing just that. Kirene, who works for the New Mexico Treasurer's Office and her students have been exploring the ins and out of budgeting for an adult lifestyle so they can teach a group of visiting high schoolers how to fill out a budget sheet. Kirene even invited the New Mexico State Treasurer, James Lewis (featured in the photo) to one of her classes to talk about the importance of doing well in school to get a good job. The apprenticeship was also featured in New Mexico's government newspaper Round the Roundhouse in October.
