Tony Barnes is a Vice President of Software Engineering for the New York Technology Lab at Capital One. His day job is to lead a team of 150 software engineers and agile professionals to deliver tools that make the lives of our associates and clients easier. In addition to that, Tony has a passion for how he can give back - and uses that energy to sponsor initiatives such as Capital One Coders and Male Allies (to Women in Tech).
At the age of 10, Tony knew he wanted to be a fighter pilot and\or astronaut. To that end, he tuned his entire academic career toward aerospace fields and earned a pilot slot in the US Air Force. "Unfortunately", while in college, the US won the Cold War – and so before he started his first real job, he was fired from it. As a backup plan, Tony decided to figure out these “computer things”… However, Tony has never taken his head out of the clouds – maintaining his passion for new technologies and their potential to change the world. He loves the increasing pace of technical “churn” that the world is facing – and tends to thrive a bit on the chaos of switching gears to new things.
