We are working at the local, state and national levels to promote programs and policies that impact students across the country.

In 2017, Citizen Schools continued to champion federal investments in afterschool and summer programs, defended national service, and supported innovation through programs such as the Education Innovation and Research program. Collectively, these federal initiatives have served more than eight million students nationally.

Citizen Schools is represented among key policy and advocacy coalitions, such as Voices for National Service; America Forward; Opportunity Nation; and the Aspen Institute’s Commission on Social, Emotional and Academic Development. During the last Congress, we held 63 meetings on Capitol Hill with members of the House and Senate education and appropriations subcommittees, advocating for full funding of national service, afterschool and summer programs, and teacher training and professional development.
