This past week, I had the opportunity to sit with a group of rising Boston 9th grader girls, who were both graduates of our 8th Grade Academy program and summer interns at Citizen Schools. Cary, NC – Every year, Americans who give their time to help others are presented with the President’s Volunteer Service Awards. And this year, three Cary residents who work to educate students without many resources were recognized for their effort.
Jorge Nova and Doug Leonard, of Matthews, were among this year’s silver award honorees at the annual President’s Volunteer Service Awards ceremony on June 27. Nova and Leonard were recognized for their work as Citizen Teachers with national nonprofit Citizen Schools. The pair spends several hours each week sharing their expertise in particular fields with middle school students from low-income communities.
