Bank of America Employees Commit to 40+ Volunteer Hours

This fall, over 1,500 volunteer Citizen Teachers are teaching nearly 500 apprenticeships across the country. About 60 percent of those apprenticeships are being taught by volunteers from partner organizations like Bank of America, which has been a national partner for several years. In North Carolina, Bank of America employees have taught 23 apprenticeships since the 2006-2007 academic year, and just this year Citizen Schools was featured in a Bank of America commercial highlighting the company's support of education efforts in the Charlotte market.

In addition to teaching, Bank of America employees volunteer in many other ways such as serving on our advisory board or engaging in one-time opportunities like Guest Weeks and 6 Degrees of Charlotte. Nanelle Napp, SVP, Marketing Program Manager with Bank of America, is one of those employees. She joined the Citizen Schools North Carolina Advisory Board on July 12, 2011. Over the past year Nanelle has worked tirelessly as an advocate for Citizen Schools, successfully promoted our 6 Degrees of Charlotte event in February 2012, and increased awareness about Citizen Schools among fellow Bank of America associates.

On July 18, Nanelle is taking her advocacy a step further by hosting an Awareness Building Breakfast at Bank of America to increase interest about Citizen Schools and our upcoming volunteer opportunities this fall. So far, teams of Bank of America employees are already committed to volunteering as Citizen Teachers to teach apprenticeships at Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School. These teams will share their expertise and advice through guest speaking opportunities and spend over 40 hours this fall semester teaching students about financial literacy, marketing and other topics focused on 21st century skill building.

Strong partnerships with corporations like Bank of America are bringing personal finance education and other topics to our young apprentices and future leaders in North Carolina. Businesses interested in partnering with Citizen Schools should contact Cassie McIntyre, Director of External Engagement, at cassiemcintyre@citizenschools.org.
