At Citizen Schools, a WOW! is what students produce through their apprenticeships: high-quality, real-world products or performances that give value back to the community. From a gourmet meal prepared and served at a neighborhood fair to a puppet show performed for patients in a children's hospital to a new web site designed for their own school, each WOW! makes young people heroes in their own community, and demonstrates what's possible.
Citizen Schools apprentices produce good news, good ideas, and valuable resources—the very act of producing a WOW! raises the expectations that students have for themselves and that their families and their schools have for them. Working hands-on with volunteer Citizen Teachers from the community, they develop 21st century skills like teamwork, technology, and communication and help the school or the community at the same time. WOW!s bring a positive energy and spirit into the school and make everyone exposed to them feel proud, pleased and positive.
Citizen Schools apprentices' work speaks—no, shouts—for itself.
