Citizen Schools embraces the belief that academic achievement is not determined by innate ability, but by the amount and quality of effort invested into achieving at high levels. When students are not in apprenticeships, our staff of educators is leading activities designed to reinforce school-day learning with academic support, team-building activities, and a culture of achievement.
Our model implements a multi-faceted strategy that includes communicating regularly with teachers about class requirements and student progress; communicating frequently with students' families about how best to support their academic development, providing students with structured time to complete homework; and delivering age-appropriate curricula for 6th, 7th and 8th grade students to increase the effectiveness of their efforts towards achievement.
Citizen Schools is deeply integrated into the school community and the families of apprentices. Our staff work directly with school teachers and administrators to ensure that our academic support program reinforces the lessons students learn during the day. And Citizen Schools staff connect with parents and families of every apprentice regularly to maintain a level of communication that signals our commitment to student achievement. Become an academic coach for middle-school students!
