The National Teaching Fellowship

The Citizen Schools National Teaching Fellowship is a service program offering a two-year, leadership development experience, including service as a team leader at a Citizen Schools campus, professional development with a partner organization in the community, and the opportunity for optional enrollment in a pioneering Master's program in out-of-school learning.

The Fellowship is designed to provide hands-on leadership development to people of varied backgrounds who have high potential as educators and community builders.

National Teaching Fellows are at the forefront of a new movement to improve American education through out-of-school learning. Designed for recent college graduates and mid-career professionals seeking to transform the out-of-school time education field into a true partner with national education reform initiatives, the Fellowship is paid, with full health benefits, and offers the opportunity to work in a highly collegial and entrepreneurial environment at a nationally recognized leader in the out-of-school time field.

The experience is intensive. Fellows work full-time, typically 50 hours a week including some evenings and weekends. They participate in professional development opportunities and attend summer and school-vacation Institutes to prepare for their work with students. Fellows find, however, that after two years, they have the formal education, institutional credibility, and first-hand experience to launch a career in educational leadership.
