About Us

Sarah Brown is the Director of Admissions for Citizen Schools, working to attract and hire the best talent to serve in middle schools across the Citizen Schools network. Sarah is in her fifth year of service with Citizen Schools, where she started as a Teaching Fellow in Charlotte, North Carolina. After working directly with middle school students for two years, she then served as the Campus Recruitment Manager for three regions, including New York. Prior to her work with Citizen Schools, Sarah worked as a Program Manager with Duke Corporate Education, a global custom executive education/leadership development firm, both in Durham, NC and London, UK. Zach Carroll is a Recruitment Manager for Citizen Schools, responsible for recruiting top-notch talent to serve as Citizen Schools National Teaching Fellows & Associates. Zach manages the New England regional portfolio and is based in Boston, Massachusetts, home to Citizens Schools National Headquarters. Prior to joining Citizens Schools Zach worked as the Development and Operations Associate and later as a Site Coordinator/ AmeriCorps*National Direct for LIFT. He was the Student Founder of the Roxbury LIFT office, and recruited and trained the first class of Volunteer Advocates. Devoted to holistic change and reform through civic engagement, Zach is proud to join the Citizen Schools team. Zach graduated from Northeastern University in 2011 with a B.A. in Sociology. Alex Madsen is the Admissions Manager for the Western region of Citizen Schools. Alex attended Foothill Middle School in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she was born and raised. Alex received her undergraduate degree from Bucknell University in East Asian Religion. In 2008 she joined Teach for America where she served as an early childhood educator for two years. Following her time with TFA, Alex attended the University of Denver where she received an MA in International Human Rights. Prior to her work at Citizen Schools, Alex worked with the Human Trafficking Clinic at the University of Denver as a research associate, as well as with the Morgridge College of Education at the University of Denver on the development of a comprehensive human rights and human trafficking curriculum (K-12th grade) and supplementary teachers’ compendium. Alex is passionate about creating effective, long-lasting changes that work to close the achievement gap in this Country. Roshani Mahadevan is a Recruitment Manager for Citizen Schools Recruitment & Admissions Team, joining the organization previously serving as a Volunteer Coordinator, Team Leader, and Corps Member at Jumpstart for Young Children. Roshani, a Missouri native, attended the University of Missouri for both undergrad and graduate school receiving a B.A. degrees in Anthropology and International Studies and a Master’s of Public Affairs specializing in nonprofit management and organizational change. In addition to her public affairs background, she also has extensive knowledge and experience in conflict resolution and has spent time serving on the Board of the Directors for the international nonprofit, Step Up! American Association for Rwandan Women. Roshani is passionate about education reform and truly believes children around the world should have access to opportunities through education. She is excited about her recent move to North Carolina and loves her new role recruiting top-notch, service oriented individuals to become Citizen Schools National Teaching Fellows & Associates. Holly Przybyla is a Recruitment and Admissions Manager for Citizen Schools. Holly is in her 5th year with Citizen Schools, where she started as a Teaching Fellow at the Edwards Middle School in Boston, Massachusetts. After serving on a campus Holly went to work for BELL, an after school program working with low-income elementary and middle schools as a Recruitment Assistant and Recruiter. Holly rejoined Citizen Schools to become the Massachusetts Campus Recruitment Manger, hiring the first class of 51 Teaching Fellows in the network. Holly then transitioned to Citizen Schools California, where she has been the Campus Recruitment Manger for the last two years; hiring Teaching Fellows and Teaching Associates and helping support the launch of the new Reach Teaching Fellow in Residence program for Fellows. Holly has hired around 100 Teaching Fellows and has hired TA’s in New Mexico, NC, MA, Texas, and CA over the last three years adding up to close approximately 200 Teaching Associates. Prior to Citizen Schools, Holly served with AmeriCorps with the “I Have A Dream Foundation” as an Academic Mentor with low-income high school students in Forest Grove. Holly will be starting graduate school this fall at the University of San Francisco to get her Master’s in School Counseling to pursue her passion to serve high school students from low-income diverse populations and to continue working with first generation college students. Juan Taveras joined the Citizen Schools family 2.5 years ago. He is currently serving as the Senior Recruitment Manager for the Recruitment & Admissions Team. As the Senior Recruitment Manager, Juan is responsible for driving the sourcing strategies for the National Teaching Fellowship through building relationships with colleges, universities and other non-profit partner organizations within his portfolio with a fierce focus on managing and coaching four Recruitment Manager’s doing the same within their territories. Before that, he was the Operations Manager for the NY office, working closely with the Executive Director on maintaining a fiscally sound region. Juan came to Citizen Schools with extensive management and leadership experience from the hospitality field where he worked in the hotel, restaurant and retail industries. Juan graduated from Syracuse University with a B.S. in Hospitality and Business Management and a minor in Finance. He currently resides in Washington Heights and can be found exploring the city (NYC) with his fiancée, reading or going to the movies. Contact: juantaveras@citizenschools.org
