Citizen Schools respects the privacy of its online visitors. We do not collect personally identifiable information (name, address, phone number, email, etc.) from individuals without their knowledge. Visitors may use our site freely without identifying themselves.

Use of Information We Collect

Citizen Schools collects personal information on our website for specific reasons. Examples of these include volunteer applications, job applications, quarterly newsletter distribution, and other e-mail alerts. The personally identifiable information (name, address, phone number, e-mail, etc.) collected for these services is only used for the purpose for which the information was provided. For example, if a visitor fills out a job application, that visitor will not receive other information irrelevant to jobs at Citizen Schools, unless the visitor specifically elects to receive such information.

Citizen Schools also collects personal information from offline sources such as printed student and volunteer applications, event registrations, donations, etc. Personal information collected in this way will also not be used for anything other than its intended purpose, unless the individual elects to receive other information by indicating that choice on the printed form.

We Do Not Sell or Otherwise Distribute Information We Collect

Citizen Schools does not disclose personal information to any third parties unless required to do so by law. We do not sell, rent, trade, or otherwise share mailing lists or database information.

The Citizen Schools website rarely uses “cookies.” When cookies are used, they do not collect personally identifiable information from visitors to our website.

Citizen Schools does have access to certain technical information specific to the computers of our website visitors. This information is collected in general log files and cannot be traced back to specific users. Examples of the information we collect in this manner include a visitor’s internet protocol (IP) address, the type and version of web browser used, the type of computer operating system used, and the website from which the visitor was referred to our site. This information is used to determine the number of unique users who visit the Citizen Schools website and to ensure the site is accessible to the greatest number of visitors.

Credit card donation transactions on the Citizen Schools website are provided by Kintera. Kintera collects information on behalf of Citizen Schools and does not disclose it to any party other than Citizen Schools. Kintera uses industry-accepted encryption for transmission of credit card information, which keeps visitor information secure, accurate, current, and complete. These transactions are governed by Kintera’s privacy policy.

Newsletter and Other Mailing Lists

Electronic distribution of the Citizen Schools monthly newsletter and other e-mail notices are provided by Constant Contact. Constant Contact collects information on behalf of Citizen Schools, and does not disclose it to any party other than Citizen Schools
