CITIZEN SCHOOLS is a leading national education initiative that mobilizes thousands of adult volunteers to help improve student achievement by teaching skill-building apprenticeships after school.  Our programs blend these real-world learning projects with rigorous academic and leadership development activities, preparing students in the middle grades for success in high school, college, the workforce, and civic life.

Citizen Schools currently engages over 3,000 students and 2,400 volunteers each year at 30 school-based sites around the country.  Five of those sites are in the Bay Area – serving more than 300 students in Redwood City, East Palo Alto, Campbell and San Jose – with plans to expand throughout the region.
