WE ARE GROWING. And we are growing in quality.

Amid the continuing drumbeat of educational challenges facing the country (see this TIME cover story called Dropout Nation), Citizen Schools offers hope. Our unique model of after-school apprenticeship learning has built a continuing track record of real results, going on 12 years.

The stories you'll read in this newsletter make our program come alive. But we don't rely on anecdotal evidence -- we're measuring our results internally and through the independent analysis of Policy Studies Associates. As our program gets stronger, we're extending it into more communities. New Citizen Schools campuses are launching next month in Campbell and East Palo Alto, California; Boston, Massachusetts; Newark and New Brunswick, New Jersey; Charlotte, North Carolina; and Austin and Houston, Texas. With each new city and new school, Citizen Schools gains the inspiration of hundreds more volunteers, educators, and supporters -- and, of course, amazing young people discovering their potential.

Policymakers are taking note. In Massachusetts this fall, ten public schools will pioneer an Expanded Learning Time program, in which all students receive 30% more learning time. Non-profit education organizations, including Citizen Schools, are working with the schools to deliver programming that makes the most of this opportunity.

We thank those of you who have worked so tirelessly to make this growth a reality. We invite those of you new to our family to read more about our vision for reimagining after-school learning. And we look forward to our next growth spurt.
