California Credentialing
“…The experiential nature of the REACH credentialing program provides the perfect blend of learned instructional strategies/techniques, educational theory and real life implementation of those strategies. It results in the ideal way to introduce new teachers to teaching. My first year teaching — a year from now — I will already have two solid years of instruction under my pedagogical belt.” -Ashur Bratt
The REACH Institute for School Leadership runs an accredited intern program, and partners with Citizen Schools California as the credentialing agent. Once Teaching Fellows in Residence fully matriculate into the Teaching Fellowship, REACH nominates to receive an intern credential so that they may begin their teaching practicum. These participants take seminar classes through REACH and receive additional coaching from a REACH instructor. Read more here.
Massachusetts Credentialing
In 2003, Citizen Schools and Lesley University launched a partnership which enables Citizen Schools’s staff to graduate with a Master’s in Education with a specialization in Out of School Time learning, the first of its kind in the nation. Today, participants have the opportunity to select from two Expanded Learning Time (ELT) concentrations, each with a separate licensure option: ELT Education for Adolescents & Youth, designed to focus on developing strong teaching skills or ELT Program Leadership, which focuses more on management skills. Both degrees can be combined through a third year of study as a full time Lesley student, post-Fellowship.
New York Credentialing
Starting in 2011, Citizen Schools New York began a ground-breaking partnership to provide a select cohort of Teaching Fellows with the opportunity to both participate in the Teaching Fellowship, and simultaneously receive training that leads to a Master’s Degree and New York State Teaching Certification. This unique experience is designed for Teaching Fellows who have a strong belief that full-time classroom teaching is their ultimate goal following the Fellowship, and helps prepare them for this future path by giving them the opportunity to not only teach as a Fellow, but also teach in a classroom in the first shift at their placement school, all while enrolled in graduate classes.
Partnering with the Relay Graduate School of Education (RGSE), the CSNY Relat FEllowship provides Relay Fellows with both additional time in the classroom as well as training and support of the highest quality from RGSE.
