Campus Director

A Campus Director leads a unique after-school educational program that engages 80 middle school youth, 30+ community volunteers, and 5-10 full-time and part-time staff.  Directors are responsible for supervising, coaching and developing staff; recruiting and managing volunteers; refining and implementing curricula; recruiting students; coordinating campus logistics; developing relationships with parents and school personnel;   cross-organizational collaboration; and community organizing. (Note: The tenets and time requirements of the role will vary based on campus assignment).  This is an exciting opportunity to simultaneously be the principal of your program, the mayor of the city (your campus), and the executive director of a small business—all within a national organization whose mission is educating children and strengthening communities.  Excellent Campus Directors possess a commitment to education, a passion for community building, and demonstrated experience in education and staff development.

Responsibilities Include:

Leadership

  • Supervise, coach and develop two to four full-time Teaching Fellows, three to five part-time Teaching Associates and up to 20 volunteer Citizen Teachers
  • Serve as lead campus educator, modeling interactive, hands-on learning with staff and children
  • Develop and maintain strong school relationships with the principal, teachers, and other staff of the host school
  • Forge meaningful relationships with students' guardians and other family members through ongoing communication and engagement efforts
  • Build community relationships through targeted outreach, key on and off-campus events and development of strategic local partnerships
  • Ensure dissemination of key organizational information among headquarters/regional office and campus staff, school constituents, and apprentices

Program Administration and Management

  • Deliver and assure quality of the Citizen Schools program model at assigned campus
  • Collaborate with campus staff to implement programmatic changes to model based upon Citizen Schools biannual evaluation results
  • Develop and instill strong campus culture among staff, apprentices, parents and community, based on Citizen Schools values
  • Recruit apprentices and volunteers
  • Author staff evaluations and Campus Director reports in a thoughtful and timely manner
  • Work closely with state and headquarters staff to manage and document campus logistics, including budget, tuition collection, federal snack/lunch program participation, licensing, staff timesheets, database information
  • Ensure health & safety of all participants and compliance with all Citizen Schools ' and state standards

Qualifications

The Campus Director will lead a team of front-line educators in the delivery of an outcomes-focused, hands-on educational program. He or she must possess the following:

  • Proven coaching and development skills, including demonstrated ability to support, teach, and lead staff
  • Significant experience in education, youth development and/or youth program administration
  • Prior experience with non-profit organizations, management or program operations preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with internal and external partners, including peer-to-peer support through constant feedback and communication
  • Commitment to using evaluation as a management tool
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills
  • Excellent time management skills and organizational skills
  • Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills
  • Energy, creativity, initiative and entrepreneurial zeal
  • Resilience, resourcefulness and enthusiasm
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and dedication to excellence in after school education

Compensation and Benefits

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. Full benefits include health care, 403B, three weeks vacation, and extensive training and professional development opportunities. All Campus Directors participate in the Citizen Schools national network via trainings, site visits, institutes and organization wide retreats and meetings.
