Citizen Schools teamed up with Bay Area middle schools and corporations to provide unique apprenticeships. At the end of ten weeks of learning, some of the students gathered at Cisco Systems to show off what they have learned and produced during their apprenticeships. Some students even created and programmed robots from scratch!

United for Success Academy Students Build Foundations for Success at Oakland’s Museum of Children’s Art (MOCHA)

United for Success Academy 6th Grader, Calijah, demonstrates the many fuctions of his unique architectural design.

When asked whether he had any interest in the continued exploration of a career in architecture after Monday’s WOW! showcase, sixth grade United for Success Academy student and ArchiTower “Most Valuable Person” , Calijah (pictured above), gave his interviewer a brilliant smile that affirmed the question entirely.  This week, Oakland students invited their community to convene at the Museum of Children’s Art  (MOCHA) in Downtown Oakland to view the many projects that they had visualized, outlined, planned, drafted, and contrived over the course of their ten-week architecture apprenticeships. HP VOLUNTEERS EXPOSING BAY AREA YOUTH TO NEW CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

For 10 weeks HP volunteer Citizen Teachers taught local Bay Area Middle school students about law, corporate development, product design, printing and technology. These apprenticeships have helped open up a vision of a future that may not have been there before.
