In today's world of fast-paced technology and focus on leadership, it's vital that students learn skills to become successful in the 21st Century workforce. Citizen Schools works with middle school students in the after-school hours to provide them with public speaking, teamwork, technology, leadership, and many other skills and resources.
Through Citizen Schools, volunteers from the Bay Area share what they know and love with over 450 students in six schools (with a projected growth of 12-15 sites in California in the next five years). Working side by side with adult experts, young people learn real-world skills that help put them on a pathway to success in school and in life.
For example, students learn about giving back to the community through apprenticeships where they raise funds, develop solutions to community problems, rebuild their school, or educate their neighborhood about diabetes. In California, students have also built their own computers, robots, websites, architecture plans, bikes, and much more!
