"Citizen Schools does everything with minimum overhead and maximum joy. They step out of the way to let citizens teach the things they love." Peter Vanderwarker, Citizen Teacher and architectural photographer Citizen Schools has built a nationwide organization to recruit 3,000 students, engage 2,400 volunteers, and operate apprenticeships and academic activities at 30 middle schools in 15 cities across the country. When you invest in or donate to Citizen Schools, you help change the trajectories of those young people, enrich the lives of those volunteers, and shift the conversation about education toward the essential resource of out-of-school time.
A varied community of constituents participates in Citizen Schools, and the range of sponsorship and giving opportunities reflects that variety. Just as Citizen Schools invests in young people through apprenticeships, we also develop strong collaborations with our funding partners to maximize the results. Citizen Schools aims for sustainable support that projects growth in the public as well as philanthropic sectors. In some locations, Citizen Schools accesses public sector funding streams, such as the 21st Century Community Learning Centers program, and direct support from its partner districts. Foundation grants, individual donations, and corporate contributions also play a vital role in Citizen Schools' growth and quality.
With the help of donations from individuals, organizations and corporations, Citizen Schools has been able to grow from a single campus in Dorchester to a national network. Resources are crucial for Citizen Schools to continue to build a bigger and better after-school sector for children nationwide.
This section will show you some of the many ways you can contribute to Citizen Schools—and to the future of education in America. |
