Dear families, students, teachers and volunteers,
Welcome to a new and exciting semester at Citizen Schools Monroe! We look forward to a semester where we see students continue to strengthen their leadership, teamwork and public speaking skills through hands-on learning opportunities. In 2008, Citizen Schools’ students will debate at a local college, donate money to schools in need and start their own business.
Everyday at Citizen Schools the staff encourages and guides students to focus on academic achievement through quiet and focused homework time. In addition, students are taught if you work hard you will “get smart” and be successful! Twice a week, students participate in Apprenticeship classes taught by community volunteers. These classes are hands-on learning experiences where students practice real world skills such as web design, finance, cooking and so much more!
Students in Citizen Schools also have fun. They participate in team-building activities every week and go on off-campus field trips, called explorations. This semester, we plan to visit a local university, see San Jose Taiko perform, and take a nature walk.
If you want to enroll your child in our program or learn more about how you can volunteer with Citizen Schools’ please stop by room 35/36 or call me. I look forward to seeing you on campus!

"Citizen Schools has been an inspiration for my child. It has helped him figure out what he wants to do with his future and he gets excited about going to Citizen Schools every day after school. The homework help is amazing and has motivated him to improve his math." -Carmen Velasco, Monroe parent |
