College Explorations Students will have the opportunity to visit over seven colleges
and universities. Explorations take apprentices to multiple institutions of
higher learning, from afternoon tours of those in their neighborhood to
overnight visits to great regional universities. During the 2007-2008 school year 8GA
apprentices visited San Jose State University,
Santa Clara, University
of Santa Cruz, Stanford, University of California Berkeley and a variety of
other schools in the Bay Area.
Data Analysis and
Research 8th Grade
Academy apprentices learn
techniques to conduct research on high schools and colleges. They focus on information such as test
scores, drop-out rates, student-teacher ratios, college matriculation rates,
and analyze the data to understand the high school and college selection
process.
Leadership and
Service Apprentices at 8GA campuses take part in a variety of
activities that enhance their leadership skills. Legacy Projects give apprentices the
opportunity to give back to the Citizen Schools community and the greater
community at the school. All projects communicate the
values of 8GA. This past year students
created two murals, painted tiles, and a wrote a magazine highlighting careers
of Citizen Teachers and the importance of Destination 2012. At individual campuses, 8GA apprentices may
have opportunities to exhibit leadership by taking part in panel discussions or
supporting younger apprentices on Explorations.
Alumnae Services Graduating from Citizen Schools 8th Grade Academy
provides alumni with a network of peers with similar goals and
aspirations. More importantly, our
alumni service program gives Citizen Schools alumni the opportunity to
re-connect with Citizen Schools as high schoolers and engage in community
service. Alumni can support program elements at their alma mater campuses. More importantly, Alumni can stay in touch
with adult leadership through alumni gatherings and panel discussions. |
