WOW! Events Calendar

It's that time again - Citizen Schools WOW! Events!  A WOW! is what students produce through their apprenticeships: real-world products or performances that give value back to the community.  We would love for you to visit one of our campuses in the Bay Area to see what our students have been working on this semester.  You'll see Architecture, Graphic Design, Financial Advice, Robotics, and plenty more!  If you are interested in learning more and for a complete list of all WOW!s, please see our events calendar or contact Sarah Iles at 650-363-2720.

Volunteer Highlight: Blake Lyon with City Planning

What does it take to design a city?  Why do various parts of a city have different looks?  What are things that city planners do to continuously

improve the experience of city residents?  Citizen Teacher Blake Lyon is teaching students the basics of city planning in his apprenticeship at Kennedy Middle School in Redwood City.  With the guidance of a real city planner, students explore their local community to identify design

trends, discuss other design design options, and create new alternatives.  For their WOW! (final presentation), students will propose

recommendations to the City of Redwood City.
